Characteristics of same sex couple households from 2005 till 2017. Notes: -Beginning with 2013 data products, tables reflect edit/processing changes which show same-sex married couples along with all married couples. The National survey of Unbanked and Underbanked households is conducted biennially since 2009 and is administered in partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau. An estimated 4.5 percent of U.S. households (approximately 5.9 million) were “unbanked” in 2021.
