      Note: 2017 data are preliminary estimates Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is one of the most important economic indicators; it comprises the total of all goods and services produced in an economy, minus production requirements. It is also defined as the total value added to the economy by resident producers during the year. The growth rate during a certain period of time measures the change in the size of the economy during this period. Identifying a long term economic vision, with specific targets, supports efficient economic policy, decision-making and comparisons. This serves the interest of the Emirate and welfare of the community. The contribution of activities and sectors to the economic development of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi can be identified from the statistical indicators that are presented in this chapter of the statistical yearbook. The following tables and graphs describes the performance of all economic activities in the Emirate. Data and indicators contained in this chapter shows the growth and stability achieved by Abu Dhabi's economy during the previous years. Data on the national accounts such as Gross Domestic Product by economic activity at current and constant prices, growth rates, contribution of economic activities to GDP and per capita gross domestic product are provided. Capital formation by economic activities, compensation of employees at current prices and financial data of the Abu Dhabi Government, as well as other data of economic interest are also included in this chapter.
